Psycho-pass: Inspector Shinya Kogami Volume 1

In this prequel to the hit science fiction crime drama anime series, Psycho-Pass: Inspector Shinya Kogami reveals how the legendary Enforcer was once an ace detective! Working within the city-regulating Sybil System, Inspectors must fight crime in a future where a single number measures your criminal tendencies and determines if you are useful to society! An artificial organ with a numbered brand is the key piece of evidence that leads Section 3 to a network of organ smuggling! They must set up a complicated trap in order to catch the culprit! However the real perpetrator may not be who they think it is... Reviews for the Psycho-Pass anime series: "On the whole, Psycho-Pass is a grim, interesting show that poses some philosophical questions about what makes a criminal. We are all capable of doing bad things at times-should we be punished because we thought of hurting someone before we act on it? Or because we were victims?"-Anime News Network "Makes good use of the dystopian future genre, good foils and parallels throughout. Some neat visuals..." -Anime News Network "Psycho-Pass is a compelling cyberpunk mystery..."-Kotaku "All these crimes-and the series itself-are tied together by a puppet master antagonist working behind the scenes. Much like the Moriarty character from BBC's Sherlock, the main villain of Psycho Pass is a "consulting criminal." While he rarely dirties his hands himself, he is the man working in the shadows to supply the murderers with the resources they need to get away with their crimes. In this way he is shown to be brilliant, competent, and more than a little terrifying-despite the ultimate failures of each of his murderous clients."-Kotaku "You will emotionally invest in these characters. You will be made to feel and have empathy towards them. The main characters are some of the strongest I have experienced in a while and the side characters also impacted me greatly. Agent Kogami is an interesting character who has both physical and mental strength that makes him really likeable (and loveable in my opinion)."-IGN "Psycho Pass is the best crime-thriller-science fiction anime I have watched and will definitely be recommending to others as well as watching again in the future."-IGN

Blood Oranges: A Siobhan Quinn Novel , Hörbuch,...

My name's Quinn. If you buy into my reputation, I'm the most notorious demon hunter in New England. But rumors of my badassery have been slightly exaggerated. Instead of having kung-fu skills and a closet full of medieval weapons, I'm an ex-junkie with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time. Or the right place at the wrong time. Or…whatever. Wanted for crimes against inhumanity I (mostly) didn't commit, I was nearly a midnight snack for a werewolf until I was "saved" by a vampire calling itself the Bride of Quiet. Already cursed by a werewolf bite, the vamp took a pint out of me too. So now…now, well, you wouldn't think it could get worse, but you'd be dead wrong. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Amber Benson. Providence Noir , Hörbuch, Digital, 1, 560min

From the introduction by Ann Hood: "Providence was founded in 1636 by a rogue named Roger Williams. Williams escaped here when Massachusetts was ready to deport him back to England. In the almost 400 years since, we've become infamous for all sorts of crimes and misdemeanors, including serving as home base for the Patriarca crime family for decades. My very own Uncle Eddie - I can hear Mama Rose screaming at me: 'He wasn't a blood relative! He was related through marriage!' - was gunned down in the Silver Lake section of town in 1964, just a year after he drove me in his white Cadillac convertible in a parade as the newly crowned Little Miss Natick. The writer Geoffrey Wolff told me that once he went to a barber in Princeton, New Jersey, and the barber asked him where he was from. 'Providence,' Wolff told him. The barber put down his scissors, raised his hands in the air, and said, 'Providence? Don't shoot!' I've asked 14 of my favorite writers to contribute short stories to Providence Noir. We have stories to make you shiver, stories to make you think, stories that will show you my beautiful, noirish city in a way it’s never been highlighted before." 1. Language: English. Narrator: P. Of number-one New York Times best-selling author Sue Grafton, NPR's Maureen Corrigan said, "Makes me wish there were more than 26 letters." With only two letters left, Grafton's many devoted readers and listeners will share that sentiment. X: The number ten. An unknown quantity. A mistake. A cross. A kiss. X: The shortest entry in Webster's Unabridged. Derived from Greek and Latin and commonly found in science, medicine, and religion. The most graphically dramatic letter. Notoriously tricky to pronounce: think xylophone. X: The 24th letter in the English alphabet. Sue Grafton's X: Perhaps her darkest and most chilling novel, it features a remorseless serial killer who leaves no traces of his crimes. Once again breaking the rules and establishing new paths, Grafton wastes little time identifying this sociopath. The test is whether Kinsey can prove her case against him before she becomes his next victim. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Judy Kaye. My Turn at the Bully Pulpit: Straight Talk Abou...

Welcome to the bully pulpit where opinions fly but common sense rules. Here's where you'll find straight talk about the most pressing issues of the day, all delivered in the trademark commonsense style of one of America's most popular and admired television news anchors. Always resisting the political label that attempts to place people in one ideological camp or another, Greta Van Susteren speaks from the mind and the heart, not as a liberal or a conservative, but as a right-thinking, sensible citizen. "Our country is at a critical juncture," she writes, and "too many of us are caught up in old definitions of left and right that no longer apply. If I favor the death penalty in some cases, does that make me right-wing? If I think hate crimes legislation is stupid, does that make me a conservative? If I happen to like and enjoy Ozzy Osbourne and have him on my show, does that make me a liberal? And if I believe that corporations should be held accountable if their products harm citizens and they should be subject to the rulings of a jury - ditto for doctors who commit medical malpractice - does that make me a lefty trial lawyer?"  Here's more of Greta in her own words:On the military: Liberty isn't free. As a nation, we must provide for the men and women who put their lives on the line for us. That means good pay, adequate funding for defense, and our heartfelt support.Vietnam was a very long time ago. We Baby Boomers have to wake up and realize that today’s military is a different military from the one we grew up with, and we are fighting a very different war. Patriotism is not a conservative or a liberal thing. Patriotism, as far as I am concerned, is the duty and obligation of every American. On the Supreme Court: There should be a litmus test for Supreme Court and federal court judges, and that test should be their opinion about allowing public access to court proceedings. Let cameras inside the courthouse, or at least allow 1. Language: English. Narrator: Greta Van Susteren. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/rand/000311/bk_rand_000311_sample.mp3. Stephen King Can't Beat Newberry! , Hörbuch, Di...

Through mistakes of drinks, pranks, and choices, we four teenagers were fishers without nets. This audiobook reveals the effects of horror, love, drinking, and drugs through the events recorded from 1977 to 1982. If you liked the movie Stand by Me by Stephen King based on his short story called “The Body”, then you will love these stories. It is dedicated to God and Stephen King, the true horror master. For, like in his books, this story involves young men and women who searched for love in a small town, many years ago. The narration is full of emotional roller-coaster rides, romance, losses, pranks, death, and resurrection. Though most of us think middle school is just a bump in the road, it can shape your life and choices forever. After being shot at several times, knifed, gang-beaten, sexually abused by adults, and almost killed by a live-in boyfriend, I survived. Yet, the story is about four young teenage boys who struggle to remove the masks of small-town hypocrisy. They steal beer, weed, and whiskey and are chased by a "Boss", a not-so-lively fellow. It is my hope that this audiobook will be a source of inspiration to young teens to overcome obstacles of abuse, identity, petty crimes, and domestic violence. Though the names have been changed to protect the innocent, most of what you listen to will connect with you in a way you might have experienced while watching The Outsiders or The Warriors. 1.
