A poignant and hilarious tour of the last frontier, the ultimate forbidden zone, The Vagina Monologues is a celebration of female sexuality in all its complexity and mystery. Hailed as the bible for a new generation of women, it has been performed in cities all across America and at hundreds of college campuses, and has inspired a dynamic grassroots movement - V-Day - to stop violence against women. Witty and irreverent, compassionate, and wise, Eve Ensler's Obie Award-winning masterpiece gives voice to real women's deepest fantasies and fears, guaranteeing that no one who hears it will ever look at a woman's body, or think of sex, in quite the same way again.  "I am so pleased to present this just-recorded audio edition of my play for people to hear in America and around the world," Ensler said. "Often during my travels performing and in discussions about The Vagina Monologues, many people have asked me to make a recording so that they could listen to it again and again. With the online introduction coming just before V-Day 2001, it also means a lot to me that the Audible.com sales of The Vagina Monologues will help support the expanding movement to stop violence against women." 1. True Fairy Stories , Hörbuch, Digital, 1, 209min

Sadly Mary E. Bakewell only ever wrote one book: True Fairy Stories, which was published in 1902. However, she lived a very inspirational life, most of it in the frontier west during the 1920s. The little town she lived in was poverty stricken, and Mary did her best to bring relief, solidarity, and a little pleasure to the people of the community, and each year held a Christmas party for all the children. Mary was also a bit of a rebel and instituted services, quite often having to defend her actions against the Bishop. But despite the poor conditions, harsh blizzards, a smallpox epidemic, and initial unfriendliness of the townsfolk, Mary eventually came to love the home she had chosen, and ran a Sunday school along with participating in the Women's Guild. So it is with great pride that Goatshead Castle Productions presents: True Fairy Stories written by Mary E. Bakewell - first published in 1902. This book has long been out of print....Although, I cannot for the life of me think why. For it teaches young minds the importance of nature and the wonderful creatures we are fortunate enough to share this world with. Everyone can all enjoy and learn from the stories within this audiobook, even an old witch like me! 1. Language: English. Narrator: Roger L. Jackson. Burning Man - The American Frontier revisited i...

Master's Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject American Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, grade: 100%, Humboldt-University of Berlin (English Department), language: English, abstract: This is a book about Burning Man - its history as a re-enactment of the American Frontier and its cultural significance and symbolism for the post-modern, post-western, post-rational society. As a European, Burning Man has always struck me as an event of the Wild West where almost everything was possible and acceptable and where a community reinvented civilization anew. Like the typical Western stories and movies, Burning Man is a story of humble beginnings in the isolation of the desert. The growth from a primitive to complex society seen in the numerous institutions and services we see today in Black Rock City was also accompanied by a surge in rules to safeguard the health and well being of its citizens. Therefore, Burning Man serves as an echo-land of the American Frontier myth. At the same time, Burning Man is the event of the 21st century that foretells the undergoing changes of Western society and mankind. After 3000 years of left-brain-hemisphere dominance induced by the phonetic alphabet and later typography, the age of electric and electronic media finally brought us back to right-hemisphere modes of perception and cognition. Participation and a new emphasis on ritual are just two examples of this new awareness wherein the space/time dimensions have changed dramatically from linear to acoustic. With this essay I want to give something back to the Burning Man community and hope that maybe some feel inspired to think of Burning Man in a new historical and global context. Anyone interested in American history and the countercultural precedence of Burning Man as well as Burning Man as the Marshall McLuhan's Global Theater will definitely find some interesting insights. This is the master thesis as part of my American Studies Program at Humboldt-University in Berlin. I would love to receive some feedback! Please write me an email at rondeejola@gmail.com! Thank you all, Ronny Diehl, August 2010.

'When asked about the qualities needed to be an effective CEO, the answers are, to me, quite basic: Respect for, and ability to get along with, many different kinds of people, including those that do not share your views; The will to honor promises that one makes to his family, and the understanding that work and home life must be balanced.' -Gerard J. Arpey, CEO, American Airlines 'Be positive about challenges you encounter, for no matter how successful you are, you will encounter them.' -William Clay Ford, Chairman, and CEO, Ford Motor Company 'In the real world, leaders are rarely faced with a simple choice between right and wrong. Leaders can't avoid ambiguity, but must learn to be decisive in spite of it.' -Sy Sternberg, CEO, New York Life 'I think anyone willing to work hard for their goals, learn from their mistakes, and care about others has the 'markings' to become a wonderful Leader.' -Gary Kelly, CEO, Southwest Airlines 'Find the right people and the right information to help you get the job done.' -Ronald A. Williams, CEO, Aetna 'Understand opportunities don't come in an envelope labeled 'opportunities'; create value; be honest; have a vision; work hard.' -Edward Zore, CEO, Northwestern Mutual 'Success requires envisioning, embracing and driving change. The only way to turn potential into higher levels of achievements is to continuously change.' -Susan M. Ivey, CEO, Reynolds American 'Surround yourself with people smarter than you: People make it happen and great people are necessary to make any idea come alive.' -Maggie Wilderotter, CEO, Frontier Communications 'I believe hard work, dedication, and the willingness to take calculated risks, not only in my personal life, but in my career as well, have contributed to my success. Have a passion for whatever you do.' -Robert A. Reynolds, CEO, Graybar Electric

Wake-Up Call: Tales from a Frontier Doctor

In his second book, Sterling Haynes begins by telling us that at the age of seventy a left hemisphere stroke rearranged his brain. 'My right creative side took over and I started to write poetry and humour. I was left with a partially paralysed right foot, but a writer's creative right brain. I think I got the better of the deal, a new brain in trade for a foot. The funny episodes in my medical practice became hilarious. The sad, melancholy parts of my life's memories looked less bleak.' Haynes goes on to share the humorous and sometimes bizarre tales of his life as a doctor; a man shoots off his big toe in a drunken binge and then begs the doc to get him to Sunday Mass on time, an inmate swallows a spoon to avoid solitary confinement, an accident with a Murphy bed leaves a man hanging for more than ten hours. 'I worked long hours, made house calls, went out with the ambulance and flew to remote accident areas, sometimes receiving payment in kind: hinds of beef, lamb and moose, bags of potatoes and turnips and on one occasion, a big game guide brought me a four point buck in payment for delivering his first son, leaving the dressed carcass in the centre of my waiting room.' Haynes tells it like it was in these tales of a frontier doctor, from Williams Lake to Alabama.

Take a retired Autistic Comedian. Give him time to think, and a computer. Three years later, and more than 200 stories later, you get this book. A collection of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, Biography and Westerns, with many a true story thrown in too. Most of the stories are upbeat, feel good, and will leave you pondering, or gently laying the book down, as your own memory opens a path to the story. A couple of stories may make you cry, the did me. Some might make you laugh, they did me. Some may make you think, they did me. Wander through a Universe inhabited by outcomes that border on miracles, or delusion, or both. There is a lot of truth in Fiction, just like in these stories. Lost loves, forgiveness of past wrongs, starting over- again, all these things play out in stories from the past, or present, or future. You may chuckle at a few stories, maybe even laugh out loud. The humor is genuine, no sarcasm, just laughter. The author is Autistic, and even though he doesn't get sarcasm, decades of bullies and bullying have helped him recognize when it is present. You won't find many bullies winning in these stories. You will find, math, science, alien life, frontier life, true love, and happy endings (mostly). If books were food, this one would be a stew with many ingredients. Like a stew you can sample it , taste it, and let it simmer, and then reheat it. Some folks like to race through the stories, only slowing down when they see themselves in a character, scene, or situation. Others find a groove, and let the stories flow around them gently bumping up against the ones they like. Even inanimate objects, like a rocker, or a computer, or a crystal have a story to tell. In this book, the do tell their story. Enjoy.
